Fair Employment Week is coming!

Every year, campuses across Canada dedicate a week in October to raising awareness of the issues and working conditions faced by Contract Faculty. This event is organized nationally by the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) and locally by your union, the UBC Faculty Association.

What’s happening at UBC during Fair Employment Week 2018:

There will be a variety of events and activities all week, some of which will be for Contract Faculty only, while others will be open to the wider university community. Check the Contract Faculty Info & Events page for more information.

Event Schedule:

• Monday, Oct. 22:
  We’ll be getting the word out to President Ono about the precarious employment status of contract faculty on his campuses. Send him a FEW Postcard – Postcards will be available at the UBCFA office (112, 1924 West Mall), our Booth at the NEST on Tuesday, Oct. 23 and at both luncheons (see info below).
• Tuesday, Oct. 23:
  Meet us at the NEST from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at our Fair Employment Booth in the Agora at the NEST to learn about and help raise awareness of Contract Faculty issues. Interested in volunteering? Contact Sarika Bose at [email protected].
• Wednesday, Oct. 24: LUNCH for UBC Vancouver Contract Faculty – RSVP Required

  As part of our campaign to raise awareness and celebrate the accomplishments of contract faculty, we’re inviting you to join us for a special lunch. This event is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate your contributions to the academy and to discuss and raise awareness of the issues faced by contract academics across the country.

  TIME: 12:30 to 2:00 pm
  LOCATION: Room 172 by the garden at Sage Bistro, 6331 Crescent Road.

  SPACE IS LIMITED so please RSVP to the Faculty Association by Wednesday, October 17th to reserve your seat.

• Thursday, Oct. 25: UBC Okanagan Contract Faculty Lunch
  Contract faculty in the Okanagan will be getting together for lunch to talk about issues at the Okanagan Campus. Representatives from the Faculty Association will be attending.
• Friday, Oct. 26: Fair Employment Week Pub Social!
  Join your contract faculty colleagues from other institutions at the St. Regis Pub & Grill, 602 Dunsmuir Street, Coast Salish Territories from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. RSVP at this link.
