UBC’s Program Directors work in a variety of areas and have a wide range of responsibilities. The work of a Program Director is both academic and administrative and generally involves development and administration of unique learning and/or research programs for targeted audiences or with specific content. Program Directors are usually responsible to the Associate Vice-President, Continuing Studies, and are spread out in different administrative units.
A confirmed appointment as a Program Director is the equivalent of tenure; Program Directors have the right to apply for study leave on the same terms as faculty, and also enjoy the right to collegial and consultative input into decision-making.
