Fair Employment Week is coming!
Every year, campuses across Canada dedicate a week in October to raising awareness of the issues and working conditions faced by Contract (Sessional) Faculty. This event is organized nationally by the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) and locally by the UBC Faculty Association.
What’s happening at UBC during Fair Employment Week 2017:
There will be a variety of events and activities all week, some of which will be for Contract (Sessional) Faculty only, while others will be open to the wider university community. Check the Sessional Lecturers Info & Events page for more information.
Event Schedule:
- Monday, Oct. 23: UBC Okanagan Contract Faculty Lunch
Contract faculty in the Okanagan will be getting together for lunch to talk about issues at the Okanagan Campus. Representatives from the Faculty Association will be attending. - Also on Monday, Oct. 23: UBC Vancouver – Community of Practice Session 2
Join your colleagues for “Learner Motivation” presented by Shahid Abrar-ul-Hassan starting at 12 noon, IKBLC Room 2.22 A/B. A light lunch will be provided. Please register for this event. - Tuesday, Oct. 24: It’s “Sign the Pledge” Day!
Support those who stand for the fair treatment of all academic staff regardless of employment status – Sign the pledge here. - Wednesday, Oct. 25: Meet us at the NEST starting at 12:00 noon

Join your contract faculty colleagues from other institutions at the St. Regis Pub & Grill, 602 Dunsmuir Street, Coast Salish Territories from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm! - Friday, Oct. 27: LUNCH for UBC Vancouver Contract Faculty – RSVP Required
Join your contract faculty colleagues and members of the UBCFA Contract Faculty Committee for lunch from 1:00 to 2:30 pm in Room 172 by the garden at Sage Bistro, 6331 Crescent Road. SPACE IS LIMITED so please RSVP to the Faculty Association ([email protected]) by Friday, October 20th to reserve your seat.
