Heads of Library Departments or Units are members of the Faculty Association and all of the protections and terms afforded to librarians and archivists. They provide the intellectual and administrative leadership to their units and report to the the UL, AUL, or DUL depending on the department.
Open appointments to such positions will usually be posted internally to the campus library for 2 weeks. All members with confirmed appointments who applied should be considered. Only if an internal search fails, can a position be posted externally.
Heads normally serve 3, 4, or 5-year term, renewable after an evaluation process.
Heads normally receive a minimum administrative stipend of $5000 each year.
The Faculty Association can assist you in three major parts of your work as Head:
- Negotiating and clarifying the terms of your own position;
- When you need help applying and implementing elements of the Collective Agreement for the members of your Unit; and
- Providing you with representation as appropriate if you are directly involved in a conflict, complaint, grievance or disciplinary action.
