Message from the UBCFA President

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to inform you that I will be stepping down as President of the Faculty Association on June 30, 2017. By our constitution, this will trigger an election for a replacement for the remaining year in my current term. This election will take place as part of our regular annual election cycle and you will receive more information about the Faculty Association elections for 2017 shortly.

I have chosen to resign because I have academic projects and collaborations that have reached stages requiring my full attention; it is time to return to my work as a faculty member.

I will be leaving the Faculty Association in a strong position, financially and organizationally. The Executive Committee and our staff work hard on your behalf. I thank them for their contributions to the Faculty Association and for their support of me while I have been president.

I would also like to thank our colleagues who are academic administrators for their openness to conversations and for their professionalism and collegiality during some very difficult times. I particularly thank Dr. Mathieson, Dr. Buszard, Dr. Redish, Dr. Gupta, Dr. Piper, and Professor Ono.

Finally, during my time as president, I have come to know better the incredible accomplishments of UBC’s faculty, and I feel humbled to have played some role in representing you. I am grateful for that opportunity. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Mark Mac Lean
President
