Date: Tuesday, October 17
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Location: EME 4116

We hope you’ll consider joining us for lunch and conversation with three of your UBC faculty colleagues who have wide-ranging expertise in issues concerning Academic Freedom and Faculty Governance. This is an opportunity to learn from their experiences and hopefully enter into a conversation where you can ask questions and talk about your concerns.

SPEAKERS:
  • Jennifer Berdahl: Professor Berdahl is in the Sauder School of Business at UBC. She has expertise in gender and diversity in organizations, power and status in groups, and harassment. She has been invited to speak to the challenges to her academic freedom in 2015.
  • Elizabeth Hodgson: Professor Hodgson is in the Department of English at UBC Vancouver. She has served as President of the UBC Faculty Association as well as on the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee for the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT).
  • Mark Mac Lean: Professor Mac Lean is in the Mathematics Department at UBC, and is the immediate Past President of the UBC Faculty Association. He has considerable knowledge of the University Act and how it articulates the role of collegial governance in universities.
