Re: Tentative Agreement on Collective Agreement for Faculty at UBC

A Joint Communique from the University of British Columbia and the UBC Faculty Association

The University and the Faculty Association are very pleased to advise that a tentative agreement was reached between the parties on Friday, June 30, 2017, for the terms of a new collective agreement. The tentative agreement reflects the commitment of the parties to the bargaining process, and the interests of the students and faculty at the University.

Bargaining commenced in January 2017, and the Faculty Association and the University worked diligently to reach an agreement, after the last two agreements were settled by arbitration, the most recent one in March 2016. Both bargaining committees will be recommending ratification of the agreement, and we thank them for their thoughtful and committed efforts.

The agreement is for a three-year term (July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2019) and is consistent with the bargaining mandate for public sector employees. The agreement covers faculty members, librarians and program directors at the University represented by the Faculty Association.

The agreement is subject to the ratification procedures for both the University and the Faculty Association, a process which is expected to be completed over the summer.

Details of the agreement will be communicated to the University community by the respective parties, prior to the ratification processes.

Signed,

Dr. Pamela A. Ratner, Acting Provost and Vice-President Academic
Dr. Cynthia Mathieson, Provost and Vice-Principal Academic
Dr. Nancy Langton, President, UBC Faculty Association
