Dear Colleagues,
Please join me in thanking Anne Olsen for her significant efforts and accomplishments as Chair of the Librarian and Archivist’s Committee (LAC) over the past four years. As the Chair of LAC, Anne diligently worked to promote dialogue and understanding with colleagues to improve the working conditions and environment across the library system. Anne has consistently represented our unique interests at the Faculty Association Executive Committee while also serving on the Bargaining Preparation Committee and the most recent Bargaining Committee.
Beyond her work on committees, Anne’s leadership is evidenced by the following:
- The establishment of a Joint Consultation Committee between the FA, Library administration and the University, in which collaborative discussions can take place outside of the bargaining framework; this mirrors a JCC for faculty and the University
- Advocacy for a librarian’s council to improve and increase collegial discussions with the University Librarian; this is an ongoing topic of conversation
- Review of merit and PSA processes for both campuses with updates implemented and additional topics flagged for further improvement
- Representation of the LAC and FA during the Library External Review (2021)
- Advocacy work that led to a Memorandum of Understanding with the University for an equal distribution of PSA monies to all eligible librarians and archivists in 2022 following the COVID-19 pandemic
The LAC is meant to be a forum for ideas that matter to librarians and archivists, and Anne has been unwavering in her dedication to fostering discussion in an open and inclusive way, and for advocating on our behalf.
Thank you, Anne!
Barbara Sobol
