18 January 2016

Dear Colleagues:

The Executive Committee of the UBC Faculty Association met with the Presidential Search Committee, at their request, on January 12. We took the opportunity to convey some of the messages you had sent us, especially, the sense of disengagement and cynicism that many of you have publicly and privately expressed, and the sense that recent events have damaged the University’s reputation. We also communicated our commitment to pursuing a President who is responsive to the concerns of Faculty, and who is committed to the key teaching and research missions of the University. Finally, we communicated our wish that the new President respect diversity both in the sense of personal characteristics as well as in the sense of a diversity of opinion.

Attached please find a follow-up letter to the Committee, dated January 18. (Link to letter.)

Sincerely,

Mark Mac Lean, President
On behalf of the UBC Faculty Association Executive Committee
